A MOTHER'S PRAYER

Lord, I know this child was sent to me, a gift from up above

Her purpose here, to teach to me

The depth of Your great love

 Although her time on earth was brief, her journey barely  started ;

So many have been filled with grief -

So many broken-hearted

And so, dear Lord, I'm asking you to hear this mother's plea;

Please keep her safe, take all her love

And share it, Lord, with me

Take her gentleness, courage, kindness and strength;

 marvel at her strong will,

  Take all her traits, and use them well,

But let me feel them still

Please let me feel her wonder as I gaze at Your sunset;

Let me feel her joy and hope

Don't let me feel regret.

Let me feel her strength, Lord, wash gently over me

As again, I gasp, and feel the pain

Of this reality

Promise me you'll hold her as she tries to fall asleep

Promise me you'll comfort her

If ever she should weep

Take my little girl, Lord, please keep her free from pain

Promise me she'll be o-k

And that we'll meet again

Take this '"little girl'" Lord, this daughter who's all grown,

This mother with a broken heart

Since you took her baby home

Stay with me, Lord, and hold me, help me to always see

T'hat this precious gift you '"lent" to me

Was never mine to keep

And keep me always thankful that I had the chance to know

T'his wonderful, precious, loving girl

And that she loved me so.
